iGATE's K-Café Series: Session 3

Presentation 1: Innovation and Knowledge Management


The Speaker: Vijay Kaulgud
Vijay has around 19 years of broad-based experience including over 13 years in the IT industry and the rest in the manufacturing sector.  Vijay is instrumental in building a strong innovation ecosystem at iGATE. He conducts the annual innovation contests and leads proliferation of impactful innovations throughout the organization.  He is an expert in developing the transformation framework and driving excellence using process improvement, operations management and innovation.

He has done his Master’s in Management from IIT Bombay’s School Of Management and is a B.E in Mechanical Engineering from the Mumbai University. He is an Associate Director – Delivery Innovation with iGATE.

Summary of the Presentation
During his presentation Vijay elaborated how KM is vital for each phase of the Innovation Lifecycle, The M3 approach and the ‘Problem of Plenty’. He also gave relevant examples on how Innovation and KM are inter-related.

Presentation 2: Unlearning for Innovation and Growth using KM


The Speaker: Madhukar Kalsapura
Madhukar has over 17 years of experience with reputed organizations and has led strategic programs in areas of change management, digital asset strategies, innovation management, knowledge management, information management, and so on.

His experience spans across Media Broadcasting, Telecom, IT, Power and Infrastructure Industries. He has worked in and managed global teams across the US, Europe, Scandinavia and South Asia.

He has studied Strategic Management at IIMC, and has a Ph.D. in ‘Mathematical Models in Knowledge Management’, and a Master’s in Mathematics. He has delivered several conference keynote addresses at NIT, IIMs, and IISc.

He is passionate about Mathematics, Hindustani Classical Music (Sitarist from Imdad Khani Gharana), Knowledge Management.

Currently, he is the Founder and CEO of a start-up 'Knowurture' a KM Services Organization, which is into shaping serendipity and managing knowledge.

Summary of the Presentation
Madhukar presented case examples of how KM can be a leveraged to unlearn and innovate. He also touched upon ‘The Power of Compounding’ and the related KM activities. KM enables unlearning and innovation through values like customer intimacy, operational excellence, product and service leadership and employee capability. These values are built on core business processes, organisation and structure, management system and culture, and mind-sets and behaviour.

The major take-away from the session was how KM can be leveraged to help unlearn in fast paced environment and sustain Innovation Lifecycle.

Participation

The event was attended by 10 external KM professionals across industries and 42 participants from iGATE, across locations. The participating organizations were Accenture, Rolta India, Khaitan & Co., Glocal Infomart Pvt. Ltd, and NMIMS.
